The Model Laboratory Patriots picked up their 21st victory of the season on the road Tuesday, 62-53 over Danville.
Model took the lead early in the first quarter and held a 12-9 cushion after one quarter.
A.J. Hammons hit two big three pointers early in the second quarter that ignited the Patriots and they raced out to a 31-18 lead at the half.
The Admirals came out in the second half and switched to a full-court press that allowed them to slice into the Model lead and get as close as four points.
But the Patriots regrouped and rebuilt the advantage to 44-36 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Coach Wes Scarberry once again put the ball in Jon Ballard’s hands and he controlled the ball and the game.
The senior hit eight-of-eight free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Patriots.
“They made a nice little run on us in the third quarter when they started pressing us a little bit, but we extended it a little bit late in the third,” Scarberry said. “We played pretty well in the fourth and Jon did a great job handling the ball for us. I have a lot of confidence in him at the point.”
Ballard had a big night all around, finishing with 26 points and thirteen rebounds. He also was 10-of-11 from the line on the night.
The Patriots once again got balanced scoring with A.J. Hammons finishing with 13 points, Brendon Hill had 11 and hit three three-pointers in the game, Anthony Gerald had six points, Zack Rice-Gordon had four and Jessie Middleton had two points.
“The biggest difference in this group this year from last year is they play so well together and really share the ball,” Scarberry said. “On any given night we could be led in scoring by any one of the five guys.”
Model is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bourbon County.
