The Model Lady Patriots gave a very good East Jessamine team all they wanted and then some before falling to the Lady Jaguars 61-58 Tuesday.
“I’m pleased with the way we played. We played one of our better games of the year,” Coach Ron Preece said.
The game was close the entire way and was tied after the first quarter. But behind the strong play of Darrien Botts — 15 points — and Hayley Hunt — 29 points — the Lady Pirates opened up an eight point lead before the half.
Model was able to maintain their lead until the games final minute when the Lady Jaguars finally took a one point lead.
The Lady Patriots were had a couple of chances to regain the lead but missed and East Jessamine scored another basket to take a three point lead with seconds to go.
Model missed a shot at the buzzer to tie the game.
“The score was tied with about 40 seconds to go. We missed a couple of opportunities and then we missed a chance at the end,” Preece said. “But I’m proud of the way the girls played all night and how they handled the pressure of the close game.”
Kasi Schneid finished with eight points for Model, while Abby Vickers had four points and Emily Jackson had four.
