Hickam rolled the high series for the week with a 791 score in the Friday Night Mixed League.
The best women’s scores for the week were a 215 game by Beverly Shearer in the Friday Night Mixed League and a 574 series by Tina Hisle in the Classic Doubles League.
City tournament concludes this weekend
The final sessions of the Madison County Bowling Association’s annual city tournament will be bowled on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
This tournament is open to MCBA members who have bowled at least 12 games in a sanctioned league at Galaxy this season. There is singles, doubles and team competition. The entry fee is $20 per bowler per event.
Teams bowling in Galaxy Leagues can pay the entry fee and use the scores they bowl in league play this week as their scores for the tournament.
Eight doubles teams participated in the Madison County Women’s Bowling Association’s annual 500/600 tournament on Feb. 3. This tournament pairs a woman who has bowled a 600 series with a partner who does not have a 600 series to her credit.
Beverly Shearer and her partner Brenda Marcum finished in a tie for first place with the duo of Margaret Tilsley and Terry Wilson. Each team finished with a handicapped score of 1,271 for three games.
The high scratch game for a 600 club member was 213 by Narita Rose, while Brenda Marcum rolled the high scratch game for 500 club members at 190.
Splits were converted by Marcum (4-5-7-9), Shearer (4-6-7) and Beverly Brassfield (2-7-10).
There were several high scores bowled in this league last Monday including five 700 series, 13 600 series and 13 games over 250.
The night’s high games were 289 by Ron Gugel and 287 by Daniel Benge. This was the high game for the season by Benge, but Gugel had bowled a 300 game on Nov.12.
Benge bowled the top series at 776. The other 700 series scores were rolled by Shawn Barton (755), Joe Bailey (729), Barry Miller (725) and Gugel (712).
A 600 series was bowled by Neil Haggard (695), Randy Burgess (693), Glenn Masters (689), Lewis Jones, Jr. (683), Lynn Estes (663), Bruce Watson (649) and Patrick Wells (642).
Ronnie Thomas (634), Brandon Simpson (628), Mike E. Bryant (626), Brandon Lutes (610), Craig Richmond (602) and substitute Brian Ford (612) also reached the 600 series level.
Two women - Kymmi Bowles (530) and Regina Barton (510) - bowled a 500 series.
Narita Rose led the members of this league last Tuesday with a 204 game and a 563 series.
Brenda Marcum rolled the second-best series (538) and Bridget Settles the second-high game (192) for league members.
Substitute Novel Davis bowled a 207 game and 564 series. Sub Linda Bowles also rolled a 207 game which was part of 506 series.
A 500 series was also bowled by Settles (513) and substitute Beverly Shearer (525).
An unusually large number of women converted splits at this session including Settles (2-7), Marcum (4-5 and 5-9), Janie Secchi (5-7), Susie King (2-7, 4-5 and 3-10), Beverly Aleshire (9-10), Mary Mink (5-7) and Lois Evans (4-5).
A 3-10 split was picked up by Pauline Denny, Linda Combs, Carole Bales, and Brenda Williams.
Dawn Bydal (2-7-10), Sherry Ernst (4-7-10) and Ruby Holton (2-7-8) also converted splits at this session.
As noted at the top of the column, Raymond White bowled a 300 game in this league. He is a senior at Model High School and this is his first season of league bowling.
White added scores of 205 and 155 for a 660 series to lead the league for the week.
Unfortunately, White is not eligible for a ring from the USBC for his perfect game because it was bowled during a pre-bowling session. Most leagues permit bowlers who cannot be present at a league’s scheduled time for a week’ s session to pre-bowl to establish scores to be used that week.
White’s gem counts toward his average and league awards, but a 300 game, as well as a 900 or 800 series, must be bowled during a league’s regular session to be eligible for an award from the USBC.
Merle Meade bowled the second-best scores for the week with a 236 game and 634 series.
Margaret Tilsley rolled the top women’s series (502) and second-best game (180). The high women’s game was 183 by Jan Farnstrom who also rolled the second-best women’s series (469).
Splits were converted by Tilsley (5-7) and Turner Curtis

The high games were 195 by Campbell and 176 each by Joyce Kearns and Sue Hegelmeyer.

Norman rolled the top series at 610, followed by Carl Daniels with a 584 total.
