NCAA HOOPS: EKU set for another big OVC matchup

RICHMOND — The Lady Colonels (11-7, 5-2 OVC) will be looking for their 10th home win of the season when they take on Tennessee State (8-10, 4-3 OVC) at 7 p.m. today in McBrayer Arena.

The game can be heard on WEKY 1340 AM in Richmond.

EKU is coming off a 55-51 win over OVC East Division leader Belmont on Saturday.

The two teams played back-to-back games last week.

The Lady Bruins won last Monday in Nashville in a game in which the Lady Colonels let a large first-half lead get away.

On Saturday, EKU avenged that loss even though they once again saw the Lady Bruins come back from a large deficit in the final minutes of the game.

But this time the Lady Colonels were able to stop a 14-0 Lady Bruins’ run and regrouped to extend their lead, then held on at the end to break Belmont’s five-game winning streak.

In that game, EKU got a big lift from players off its bench, especially LaRA’E Allen, who scored a season-high nine points filling in for Jade Barber.

Senior Alex Jones had her 31st career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds against the Lady Bruins.

Tennessee State is coming off consecutive wins over Jacksonville State and Morehead State last week.

The Lady Tigers are led by Kasi Hess, who is averaging 11.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Simone Hopes is second on the team in scoring at 10.3 per game and is averaging a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game.

Jasmin Shuler is averaging 9.2 points per game.

The Lady Tigers are averaging 60.1 points per game while giving up an average of 64.6 points per game.

Tennessee state is averaging 36 rebounds per game and giving up 39 rebounds per game to its opponents, and is averaging 17 turnovers per game.
