Berea College sophomore Aaron Ponder was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
Ponder, a graduate of Madison Southern, averaged 19 points, 8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals while leading the Mountaineers to three conference wins last week.
He started the week with 24 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in a 72-69 win at Alice Lloyd College on Jan. 8. He also connected on 6-of-11 attempts from behind the three-point line. The sophomore guard then scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in Berea’s 96-90 win Friday against Point Park University.
Ponder finished the week with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals as Berea defeated Brescia 92-64 on Saturday.
The sophomore currently ranks 15th in NAIA Division II assists per game (5.0). He also leads Berea in scoring (13.11 points a game), three-pointers (44), assists (90) and steals (45), is second in rebounding (6.3 boards a game).
The Mountaineers are currently 11-7 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Berea has won four straight games since returning from the Christmas break and has averaged 89 points a game during that winning streak.
The Mountaineers are set to return to action at 8 p.m. today at KIAC rival Asbury University.
