H.S. WRESTLING: Couch, Fair take titles at Tates Creek

RICHMOND — The Madison Central wrestling team participated in the Tates Creek Invitational Saturday in Lexington.

Central was represented by: Freshmen Chris Morrow (128 weight lb. class), junior Storm Savage (160 weight lb. class), junior Logan Thomas (195 weight pound class), senior Tucker Fair (220 weight lb. class) and senior Paul Couch (heavyweight).

Couch and Fair took first place in their weight divisions, Morrow and Thomas finished fifth and Savage finished ninth.

Morrow, Foster, Couch and Fair all began their tournament with byes in the first round.

Savage won his first-round match by a pin, but lost his next two matches. He finished the tournament with three wins and two losses, placing him ninth in his 16-man bracket.

 Morrow’s first match resulted in a loss to the No. 1 seed from McCreary County. He was defeated with a match score of 15-13. He went on to win his next three matches, pinning his opponents.

Thomas was pinned in his first match, but then turned around and won his second match by a pin, and won by points in his third match. His fourth and fifth match he won by pin.

Fair won his first match easily by pinning his opponent. The highlight of the tournament came from Fair’s second match, where he set a Madison Central record for quickest pin.

He pinned his opponent in just four seconds.

He then went on to win his third match by pinning his opponent from Male high school in the second period.

Couch started the tournament with two byes. His first match resulted in a win by pin. He then went on to win his second match with a pin in the third period.

His last match of the day ended successfully with a pin. Couch pinned his opponent within 20 seconds, giving him a first-place finish in his 16-man bracket.
