RICHMOND — The Lady Patriots were without one of their top offensive threats, but they still found a way to snap a long losing streak Saturday in Richmond.

Darrian Botts had 22 points and Hayley Hunt had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Model Laboratory defeated Whitefield Academy. The win was the first for the Lady Patriots (4-11) since Dec. 3 and ended a 10-game skid.

“Our past three games, I think our kids have competed really well,” Model coach Ronald Preece said.

Model shot just 27 percent, but lead most of the game even without standout forward Mallie Cornett in the lineup. The Lady Patriots had a 17-13 lead after the first quarter and was up 29-18 at halftime.

Model hit 16-of-28 free throws. Kasi Schneid had six points, Abby Vicars had six points, while Maci Hensley and Chloe Dyer had two points each.

Cornett hurt her ankle late in Friday’s loss at Berea.

Model is set to return to action Tuesday at Western Hills.

Berea Community 41,           Calvary Christian 33

The Lady Pirates improved their record to 9-4 on the season with a 41-33 victory Saturday on the road against Calvary Christian.

The win was the second-straight for the Lady Pirates. They have also won five of their past six games.

Berea is set to return to action Wednesday at home against Sayre.

Wayne County 57,                 Madison Southern 31

The Lady Eagles shot just 19 percent from the field and suffered a 57-31 loss to Wayne County Saturday in Berea.

Madison Southern was two-of-23 from three-point range and was out-rebounded 38-31.

Southern is set to return to action Friday at Berea.
