RICHMOND — Register Staff Report

The Lady Patriots (3-5) fell to West Jessamine 69-52 Monday in Nicholasville.

On a night when Model coach Ronald Preece only had six healthy players to play both the junior varsity and varsity games, the Lady Patriots gave a gutsy effort, but just ran out of steam in the second half.

“The effort was there tonight and they competed hard all night and I’m happy with that,” Preece said. “But we were already short handed and then Kasi Schneid got her third foul in the first half. That really cut down on my ballhandlers and they pressed us all night and we just got tired in the second half.”

Model started out well and led the Lady Colts 12-11 after one quarter. But in the second quarter the pressure defense began to rattle the Lady Patriots as West outscored them 29-8 to take a 40-20 lead at the half.

Model outscored West 12-11 in the third quarter also, but the Lady Colts ran away in the fourth outscoring Model 21-5.

Hayley Hunt led the way for the Lady Patriots with a career-high 27 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Junior Darrian Botts had 12 points, while Schneid added five, Emily Jackson had four points and Abby Vicars and Maci Hensley had two points each.

Model will play four games in the Berea Holiday Classic this weekend, beginning with a matchup with Jackson County at 5 p.m. Friday.
