Colonel Club Classic a big success

Special to the Register

BEREA — The 2013 Colonel Club Golf Classic, presented by Kentucky Bank, featured excellent golf and rounds of fellowship on a perfect July afternoon. Arlington Country Club hosted a full-field of 146 golfers Thursday at the annual fundraising event.

Benefiting more than 300 EKU student-athletes, the tournament brings together members of the community, from corporate partners to Colonel Club members to athletics department coaches and staff.

This year’s champions, crowned in three divisions based on team handicaps, won an EKU adidas apparel package. The team of Hameed Koury, Pat Stephens, Tim Stephens and Tommy Martin secured the victory in the 1st Division.

Rob Ciolek, Keith Hafer, Rodger Ross and J.T. Ross took first in the 2nd Division while Sam Halley, Greg Carter, Ethan Buell and Chris Nelms were victorious in the 3rd Division.

In addition to the team champions, the highlight of the awards ceremony was the Grand Prize Raffle Drawing when Rob Congleton won the grand prize – a VIP experience to the EKU football team’s home opener against Robert Morris on Thursday night, Aug. 29. Larry Stough won the second place prize, an official EKU men’s golf team bag.

Prizes were also awarded to folks who won the longest putt (Clay Hamrick), longest drive (Anne Gray and Mike Whitson) and closest to the pin (Tommy Martin and Nancy Robertson) contests. Unfortunately, hole number seven did not yield the hole-in-one that would have sent a golfer home with a 2013 Ford Fusion.
