H.S. SOCCER: Pirates rally past Oneida Baptist

RICHMOND — The Pirates opened play in the Berea Cup with a 3-2 win Saturday over Oneida Baptist Institute.

Berea Community (2-4) got goals from Austin Rose, Derek Castle and Gabriel Gomez, Jr.

The Pirates trailed 2-0 in the first 20 minutes of the game. Rose got Berea going with a goal on a shot from the right sideline. Castle scored five minutes later on a cross to tie the game.

Gomez scored with about five minutes left in the second half off a cross from the right sideline.

The loss snapped a four-game losing streak.

Berea is set to return to action Wednesday against Madison Southern.

Southern 6, Oneida Baptist 0

The Eagles had little trouble rolling past Oneida Baptist Saturday in the opening game of the Berea Cup.

Daylin Taylor had a pair of goals, while Tanner Caudill, Tyler Conley, Christian Queen and Tanner Kidwell also each had a goal.

Elijah Sexton earned the shutout in goal.

Southern (7-2-1) is set to return to action Wednesday against Berea Community.

KCD 3, Model 1

The Patriots suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling to Kentucky Country Day at home, 3-1.

Model’s only goal came from Jack Frisbee on an assist from Marlowe Smith.

Levi Agee was in goal for the Patriots (8-1).

Model is set to return to action Tuesday at Southwestern.

Central 1, Mercer County 1

The Madison Central boys soccer team picked up a 1-1 tie Satuday evening at Mercer County.

The Indians are now 6-3-1 on the season.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at home against Lexington Christian Academy.
