Indians win Stonerside Cup
Both the varsity and junior varsity Madison Central boys soccer teams won their divisions of the Stonerside Cup in Paris on Saturday with wins over Bourbon County.
In the varsity contest, the Indians prevailed 1-0.
In the 22nd minute, Addison McCoy sent a long ball from the back line to Grant Willoughby, who crossed it to Dylan Dotson. Dotson headed the game’s only goal in while on the run.
Central had 19 additional shots on goal, but could not capitalize.
Late in the second half, Bourbon had a chance to score on a penalty kick, but goalie Ben Durham swatted the ball away.
The Indian defense rose to the occasion to help give Durham earn his first shutout of the season.
Defender Tate Renzinbrink had nine blocks and two steals, Chad Barnes had four blocks and two steals, Sammy Perkins had three blocks and two steals and McCoy had two blocks and three steals.
Durham had four saves while in goal.
Senior Addison McCoy was named Most Valuable Player for the tournament.
The junior varsity team remained unbeaten after beating Bourbon, 5-0.
Bryce Fielder had two goals, Alzen Isufi scored, Connor Britton scored, Jackson Gilbert scored on a corner kick by Fielder, and Bryden Allen scored on an assist by Isaiah Owsley.
Worthie McGuire earned the shutout in goal for the Indians.
