H.S. VOLLEYBALL: Central rally falls short on Senior Night

RICHMOND — The Lady Indians tried to rally from a two-set deficit, but couldn’t come up with a victory on Senior Night.

Madison Central (14-13) took the third set before Southwestern closed out a hard-fought win Tuesday in Richmond. The Lady Warriors won 3-1 (25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 25-18).

The loss was the fourth-straight for the Lady Indians.

Central honored its five seniors prior to the game — Latavia Campbell, Kiara Clayton, Haleigh Morris, Samantha Walczyk and Demetria Young — then quickly fell behind in the opening game.

Southwestern took an 11-4 lead and never trailed.

Solid serving by Campbell, including an ace, and a kill by Morris allowed Central to close within four points. Later in the set, got within three points on strong serves by Young.

Southwestern ran off four-straight points to take a 17-10. Katie Stuart and Tyra Cain had aces later in the set and Morris and Payton Templeton had kills, but the Lady Warriors never surrendered the lead.

In the third set, Templeton had three kills and two digs. Morris and Walczyk each had two kills and Stuart had nine assists and three digs.

For the match, Templeton had 10 kills, Stuart had 25 assists and nine digs and Morris had eight digs and four kills.

Central is set to wrap up the regular season today at Woodford County.

Berea 3, KSD 2

The Berea Community volleyball team picked up a 3-2 win over the Kentucky School for the Deaf Tuesday at home.

The Lady Pirates (6-20) won by scores of 20-25, 23-25, 25-10, 25-11, 15-5.

Berea is set to return to action Thursday at home against Robertson County.
