H.S. SOCCER: Dotson leads Central past Bourbon County

RICHMOND — Dylan Dotson provided an early offensive spark that carried Madison Central to a season-opening victory Monday over Bourbon County in Richmond.

The sophomore forward/midfielder found the net twice in the first 10 minutes and the Indians (1-0) went on to pick up a 2-1 win. Senior goalie Ben Durham had six saves to earn the victory in net.

In the opening minutes, freshman Peyton Netherton was fouled in the box. Dotson took the penalty kick and easily slipped a shot into the corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Dotson took a pass from senior Grant Willoughby and scored on a breakaway.

Bourbon County was able to sneak a shot past Durham late in the first half, but was never able to pull even. Central’s defense, led by seniors Addison McCoy and Chad Barnes, junior Tate Renzenbrink and sophomore Cameron Wilson made the one-goal lead hold up.

The Indians had several offensive pushes in the second half, but also was unable to find the net again.

Central is set to return to action Thursday at home against Anderson County.

In junior varsity action, Central picked up a 5-3 win over Bourbon.

Eighth-graders Bryce Fielder and Brandon Carney each had two goals and freshman Hunter Jackson added a goal. Freshman Jackson Gilbert had an assist.

Eighth-graders Christian Roberts and Tanner Hatcher split time in goal.
