OVC SOFTBALL: Colonels top UNC Greensboro

RICHMOND — The Eastern Kentucky University softball team snapped a two-game skid with a 5-2 win at UNC-Greensboro on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 10-10 overall heading into OVC action this weekend.

Senior Christina Ciolek equaled a personal high with three hits and also knocked in three runs to lead the EKU offense. The five runs were the most scored by EKU in its past seven games.

Meanwhile, junior pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger went the first three innings in the circle without allowing a hit before re-entering in the sixth to tally the save.

Ciolek and junior Katie Tackett got the Colonels on the board in the third inning with back-to-back, two-out RBI singles.

EKU extended its lead to 5-0 in the fourth. Ciolek once again highlighted the inning with another two-out hit, this time resulting in a pair of RBIs.

UNCG rallied in the sixth inning,  capitalizing on a pair of early walks and a hit batter. After the Spartans scored two runs, Pittsenbarger re-entered and stopped the comeback with a  strikeout. The junior righty then set down UNCG in order to end the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Colonels wind down their Spring Break road trip this weekend at OVC foe Tennessee State. The two teams begin the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday.

EKU tennis team falls to Samford

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team concluded its Spring Break road trip with a 6-1 loss at former OVC foe Samford Thursday afternoon in Birmingham Ala.
