H.S. BASEBALL: Kelsey, Central handle Dunbar

RICHMOND — Kyle Kelsey pitched six shutout innings as Madison Central defeated 11th Region rival Dunbar, 9-4, Wednesday in Lexington.

Ben Fisher was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Jeremy Lakes was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Indians (17-9).

Central scored three times in the third and sixth innings, then added two more runs in the seventh. The Bulldogs got all four of their runs in the seventh.

Kelsey allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Austin Templeton came on to pitch the seventh and gave up two hits and four unearned runs, while striking out one.

In the second inning, Fisher and Jimmy Wright were hit by pitches and Nick Kavanaugh gave the Indians a quick 1-0 lead.

In the third, Chris Wells walked and scored on a wild pitch. Fisher added an RBI single and later scored.

Central took charge in the sixth. Jeremy Lakes singled, Wells reached on an error and Jake Caldwell reached on a bunt. Lakes scored on a wild pitch, Ben Morin ripped an RBI single and Fisher added a sac fly to put the Indians in front, 7-0.

In the seventh, Jacob Frazier walked, Kirk Humphrey singled and Donte Miller walked. Cory Mullins then delivered a two-run double.

Joseph Holbrook had a hit and Wells scored twice.

Central is set to return to action Friday against Southwestern in the Scott Mac Memorial Tournament in Somerset.
