H.S. SOCCER: Southern battles back to earn tie with Lincoln County

RICHMOND — Madison Southern needed a late goal to rally for a tie with Lincoln County Tuesday in Berea.

Tyler Conley connected on a penalty kick with about six minutes left to secure a 1-1 draw with Lincoln County.

Goalkeeper Elijah Sexton made a diving save on a free kick in the final minute to keep the score tied.

“We changed some things at halftime,” Southern coach James Ray said. “We played much better in the second half.”

The game was scoreless at halftime, but Lincoln County got a goal about 12 minutes into the second half.

Southern had numerous scoring chances. The Eagles hit the crossbar several times, including once on a chance by Lucas Gabbard.

Southern is set to return to action Thursday at home against North Laurel. Game time is 6 p.m.

Southern girls fall in tournament

The Madison Southern girls soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss to No. 2 Scott County Tuesday in the opening game of the Little Caesar’s Classic at Boyle County.

The Lady Eagles are now 2-4-2 on the season.

Southern will continue action in the tournament later this week.

Berea girls fall at Garrard

After picking up a 3-2 win over Pulaski County Monday at home, the Berea Community girls soccer team fell at Garrard County, 3-1, on Tuesday.

The Lady Pirates (4-5) are set to return to action Thursday at home against Corbin.
