BOWLING: Barton bowls perfect game

(Continued)

RICHMOND —

League Highlights

Galaxy Classic

As noted at the top of the column, Shawn Barton bowled a 300 game in this league last Monday. This is Barton’s second 300 game at Galaxy (his previous perfect game at Galaxy was rolled in 2007) and the third of his career.

Barton’s perfect game is the fifth one rolled at Galaxy this season. Other members of the Galaxy 2012-13 300 club are Ron Gugel, John Hickam, Raymond White and Lewis Jones Jr.

This is the largest number of individuals to roll a 300 game in one season at Galaxy. However, the four men who rolled a perfect game during the 2011-12 season — Gugel, John Poynter, Brandon Simpson and Neil Haggard — rolled a total of six 300 games as Simpson and Haggard each reached perfection twice that season.

David Norman joined this season’s 700 club at Galaxy with a 710 score, which led this league last week. Joe Reichel also reached the 700 level with a 707 score.

Eighteen men bowled 600 series at this session. The highest 600 series were rolled by Matt Wieczorek (697), John Hickam (696), Lewis Jones Jr. (676), Randy Burgess (659), Barton (657), Brandon Lutes (653), Bobby Abrams (645), Spider Weaver (642) and Brandon Simpson (640).

Bruce Watson (627), Neil Haggard (626), Ron Roberts (622), Lynn Estes (621), Todd Young (619), Mark Rogers (617), Glenn Masters (605), Ron Gugel (604) and Ronnie Thomas (600) also reached the 600 series level.

Three women — Regina Barton (575), Judy Poynter (554) and Andi Daly (533) — bowled a 500-level series.

Galaxy Girls

Shella Cobb bowled the top game (203) and series (572) in this league last Tuesday, followed by Tammy Fourre at 196 and 513.

Several splits were converted last week. A 5-10 split was picked up by Mary Marcum and Betty Lou Masters and a 3-10 split was converted by Charlotte Hackworth and Beverly Aleshire.

Other splits were converted by Lois Evans (3-9-10), Brenda Marcum (6-7-10), Emma Lee Tate (4-5-7), Karen Hendrix (5-7), Sherry Ernst (4-7) and Linda Combs (3-5-10 and 4-7-10).

Arlington

Jan Barnes set new highs for the season in this league with a 234 game and 545 series last Tuesday.

Janie Ohr rolled the second-best game (184) and Connie Bowlin the second-high series (480).

Linda Drummond picked up a 5-7-10 split.
