LOUISVILLE — The Madison Southern girls and boys track teams had some very good individual and team performances Friday in the KHSAA Class 2A State Track meet — claiming four second-place and three third-place finishes.

Senior Mike Rothmel finished his high school career on a high note, posting personal bests in both the long and triple jumps.

In the long jump, Rothmel finished second with a jump of 22-12.50 and in the triple jump his distance of 44.5 ft. was good enough for a fifth-place finish.

Damien Harris finished second to defending state champion Ryan Timmons of Franklin County in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.17.

Junior Kate Freel also had a very good day, finishing third in the high jump and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Freel, Amanda Collier, Karrigan Moberly and Mackenzie Bicknell proved they are one of the top distance teams in the state, posting second-place finishes in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. In the 4x200, Bicknell surged past four runners in the final straightaway to clinch the second-place finish for the Eagles.

Moberly also placed fifth in the high jump, while Bicknell placed 11th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.26 and 13th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 27.26.

Junior Casey Dionne finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40-71 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in 15.73.

In field events, Southern’s Clayton Barnes finished 13th in the discus with a throw of 127-10, while teammate Derek Howard was 15th with a throw of 121-03.

Seventh-grader Maria Melhuish finished 16th in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 12:12.96, besting her regional qualifying time of 12:33.50.
