H.S. SOFTBALL: Lady Eagles keep rolling

BEREA — The Lady Eagles have been on quite a roll through the opening two weeks of the season — and they once again put together another very solid performance Friday in Berea.

Madison Southern extended its season-opening winning streak to six games with a 10-0, five-inning win over Jackson County.

The Lady Eagles are now 6-0 and have out-scored their opponents 60-13.

Junior Emily Osborne started in the circle for Southern and went the distance. She allowed just one hit and one walk and had five strikeouts.

The Southern offense gave Osborne all the run support she would need in the first inning, scoring four times. The Lady Eagles added three runs in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth.

Southern has scored nine or more runs five times this season.

In the first inning, Alex Nash ripped a solo home run to give the Lady Eagles a quick 1-0 lead. Jaycee Combs singled and Tara Bord walked before Briana Lanham and Kayla Hargis both delivered RBI singles.

In the fourth, Bethany Mays and Alex Nash both walked, then Combs added an RBI single. Bord walked and errors allowed two more runs to score.

In the fifth, Abby Nash walked, Osborne reached on a fielder’s choice and Kelley Freeman and Mays reached on errors. Osborne, Freeman and Mays eventually came around to score.

Mays, Alex Nash and Combs each scored twice for Southern.

The Lady Eagles are set to return to action Tuesday at Jackson County.
