RICHMOND — The Lady Indians fell behind early and couldn’t rally for a victory Monday at home against Southwestern.

Sydney Fourman hit a two-run home run in the first inning and also pitched a complete-game six-hitter as the Lady Warriors defeated Madison Central, 6-2.

Sammie Walczyk had two hits, including a double, as the Lady Indians fell to 2-4 on the season.

Central got a run in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Sydney Vaughn doubled and scored on a Walczyk double.

In the fifth inning, Reagan Coyle was hit by a pitch and stole second. After a single by Audrey Wade, Coyle stole home.

Coyle had Central’s only other hit, a single in the second inning.

Vaughn had homered in four-straight games. In her first at-bat she hit a line drive to center field that came up about 10 feet short of the fence.

She grounded out in the third and flied out to left field in the sixth inning.

Vaughn’s streak of four-straight games with a home run is the second-longest in state history, according to KHSAA records. Three players share the state record with homers in five-straight games — Ashley Flener (Hopkins County Central), Emily Gaines (South Laurel) and Karen Rice (LaRue County).

Southwestern scored twice in both the third and fourth innings.

Courtney Patton started and went the distance for the Lady Indians in the circle. She allowed six runs (four earned), allowed six walks and struck out nine.

Central is set to return to action today at Madison Southern. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

The Model Labortory softball team suffered a 9-8 loss to Wolfe County Monday on the road.

The Model Laboratory baseball team took an early lead before Sayre rallied for a win Monday in Lexington.

The Spartans scored three times in the fourth and went on to pick up a 5-2 win.

Alex Blose started for Model and Joseph Hampton come on in relief.

With the loss, the Patriots fall to 0-4 on the season.

Model is set to return to action today at Burgin.
