GLENMORE: EKU’s Levin takes top honors in OVC again

RICHMOND — Last Wednesday, EKU freshman Sofie Levin was chosen as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Female Golfer of the Week.

Levin finished fourth in a field of 83 players at the University of North Florida Intercollegiate. The Stockholm, Sweden, native fired rounds of 74, 79 and 74 for a 54-hole total of 227. As a team, EKU also placed fourth in the 14-team event.

Levin was also voted Co-Player of the Week in EKU’s last tournament of the year in 2013 when she led the Colonels to a third-place finish in the Winthrop Intercollegiate in Rock Hills, S.C.

Congratulations and keep it going!

Special thanks to EKU Assistant Director of Athletic Public Relations Kevin Britton for the info.

Looking forward to            seeing azaleas

I can hardly wait to jump in my car and head to Augusta, Ga., for the annual Golf Writers Association Awards Banquet the night before the start of the Masters on April 10.

I can only hope and pray that old Mother Nature will relax and let the azaleas bloom.  They are the breath of spring to me.

It is such a great treat to attend these banquets and see all the great golfers, sport writers and people who win the awards.  There is a cocktail party preceding the banquet that gives you a chance to meet and talk with some of them.

This year I especially want to meet Kenny Perry, if I’m lucky enough.

The awards this year will go to the following people:  Adam Scott — Male Player of the Year, Imbee Park — Female Player of the Year, Kenny Perry — Senior Player of the Year.  The Ben Hogan Award, given annually by the GWAA to an individual who has continued to be active in golf despite a physical handicap or serious illness, will be given to Ken Duke. There are four other awards given that I shall cover later.

The banquet this year will take place at the Augusta Country Club, which adjoins the Augusta National Golf Club. We should get to see a lot of azaleas with these two beautiful clubs touching each other.

Wow! I can’t wait!

Funny bone

Bonehead award of the week

The NCAA Selection Committee naming the Louisville Cardinals a No. 4 seed.

Ouch! I wouldn’t bet against them.

Wish for the Colonels

May you be the first EKU team to ever bring home a win in the NCAA Tournament!

Beautiful!
