H.S. BASEBALL: Central tops Henry Clay, 5-2

RICHMOND — The Indians got their offense back on track Friday against a tough 11th Region rival at Don Richardson Field.

Ben Fisher had two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Indians (19-11) defeated Henry Clay, 5-2. Madison Central scored three times in the fourth inning to bust open a tie game.

The Indians had been shutout in back-to-back games, collecting just a total of six hits in losses to Woodford County, 4-0, and Western Hills, 1-0.

Central had seven hits against the Blue Devils.

Jonah Kelsey started and went two innings, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.

Bryar Rose pitched one inning, giving up one hit. Braden Riel also went one inning, giving up one run on two hits. Zach Voll pitched an inning and Jeremy Lakes pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Henry Clay scored once in the first, but Central got two runs in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs, Ben Morin singled and scored when Fisher doubled to left. Kelsey followed with an RBI single.

After the Blue Devils tied the game in the top of the fourth, the Indians went back in front of the bottom of the inning. Lakes, Chris Wells and Jake Caldwell all singled to load the bases. Wright then drew a walk to give Central a 3-2 lead.

Wells scored on a wild pitch and Ben Fisher reached on a fielder’s choice that pushed across another run.

Central is set to wrap up the regular season today at East Jessamine. Game time is set for noon.

Boyle County 3, Madison Southern 2

The Eagles (6-27) wrapped up the regular season with a 3-2 loss Friday at Boyle County.

The loss snaps Southern’s three-game winning streak.

The Eagles are set to return to action Monday against Berea Community in the opening round of the 44th District Tournament at Berea College. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
