H.S. BASEBALL: Hawkins to throw out first pitch at Central’s Little League Night

RICHMOND — The Madison Central baseball team is set to take on 11th Region rival Bryan Station today in Richmond on Little League Night at Don Richardson Field.

UK signee and Kentucky Mr. Basketball Dominique Hawkins will  throw out the first pitch and be available to sign autographs.

Each Little League player in uniform and one parent will be admitted free of charge. Players will be allowed to run on the field and  meet the Central team and coaching staff. There will also be a radar gun and prizes.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

aBerea 23, Lynn Camp 0

The Berea Community baseball team picked up a 23-0, four-inning win over Lynn Camp Thursday in Berea.

Zach McPeak earned the win on the mound for the Pirates (13-7), while Hunter Wilson hit his first home run of the season.

Neil Claytor was 2-for-3 and Jason Strong made his first start of the season at catcher and had a solid performance.

The Pirates have won three of their past four games.

Berea is set to return to action today at home against McCreary Central.

12th Region Tennis

The Berea Community boys tennis team will look to repeat as champions when the 12th Region Tournament gets underway today at Berea College.

The Pirates won last year’s regional title and have not lost to a region opponent so far this season.

The team has only lost one match this year.

Steven Gadd is the No. 1 seed in the tournament, while teammate Sam Jackson is the No. 2 seed.

The first two rounds of the event will be played today. The quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Saturday and the finals are set for 4:30 p.m. Monday.
