OVC WOMEN: EKU, Tech set for first-place showdown

RICHMOND — The Lady Colonels (15-8, 9-3 OVC) will be looking to take sole possession of first place in the OVC Eastern Division today when they take on Tennessee Tech (15-10, 9-3 OVC)  in McBrayer Arena.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

Tech and EKU are tied atop the East Division and are a half game ahead of Belmont with four games remaining.

The top team in the division receives a double bye in the upcoming OVC Tournament, which is schedule for March 6-9 in Nashville.

The Lady Colonels are coming off a tougher-than-expected 80-69 victory over winless Jacksonville State on Saturday.

In that game, the Lady Colonels had to rally in the second half, then stave off a late charge by the Lady Gamecocks to secure the win.

Marie Carpenter led all scorers with 23 points and had three big three pointers in the game.

Brittany Coles had a season-high 18 points and drained four three pointers.

Alex Jones had her 10th double-double of the season and the 34th of her career. She need four more to move into first place on the EKU career double-double list.

Jones also needs only 18 more rebounds to pass Sandra Mukes and move into second place on the all-time EKU rebounds list.

Tennessee Tech enters the game on a four-game win streak, including an 84-70 victory over Morehead State on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles are led in scoring by Tacarra Hayes who enters the contest averaging 17 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Guard Jala Harris is second on the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game and leads the team in assists at 3.7 per contest.

Molly Heady is averaging 8.2 points per game and 4.6 rebounds, while Brittany Darling is also averaging 8.2 point and pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game.
