H.S. HOOPS: Patriots roll to ninth straight win

RICHMOND — The Patriots made sure the second meeting this season with Western Hills had the same outcome as the first.

Model Laboratory jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 76-54 win over the Wolverines in Richmond. Jon Ballard had 20 points and eight rebounds as the Patriots (15-3) extended their winning streak to nine games.

Zack Rice-Gordon had 15 points and eight rebounds, Anthony Gerald had 14 points and three assists and A.J. Hammons added 10 points.

Model defeated Western Hills, 86-76, Dec. 28 during the Shirley Kearns Invitational in Richmond.

The Patriots had a 23-10 lead after the first quarter. Back-to-back three pointers by Gerald at the start of the second quarter started a run that helped Model take a 42-20 lead into halftime.

Brendan Hill had eight points, Jesse Middleton had five points and eight rebounds and Caleb Kincaid added four points.

The Patriots are set to return to action Wednesday against Berea in the opening round of the 11th Region All “A” Classic at Sayre.

Conner 62, Lady Eagles 38

Briana Lanham had a double-double, 15 points and 13 rebounds, but the Lady Eagles couldn’t overcome a rough start Saturday at home against Conner.

Madison Southern shot just 28 percent and suffered a 62-38 loss. Marley Lawson had eight points as the Lady Eagles (5-13) committed 27 turnovers.

Conner had a 23-6 lead after the first quarter and was up 42-20 at halftime. The Lady Cougars never trailed and led by as much as 30 points (59-29).

Adriannah Willis and Rachel Ramey each had five points, Kelley Freeman had three points, while Hayden Westfall and Sarah Smith each had one point.

Southern is set to return to action Monday at home against Mercer County.

Jackson County 42, Lady Patriots 26

The Lady Patriots suffered a 42-26 loss Saturday on the road at Jackson County.

Model (4-14) is set to return to action Wednesday against Frankfort in the opening round of the 11th Region All “A” Classic at Sayre.
