H.S. SOFTBALL: Lady Patriots top Williamsburg for third-straight victory

RICHMOND — The Lady Patriots put together another impressive offensive effort on Wednesday against Williamsburg at EKU.

Model Laboratory had 12 hits and picked up a 15-2, five-inning victory. The win was the third-straight for the Lady Patriots (7-6), and during that streak Model has scored 37 runs.

“We’ve made some adjustments and I think we are one more adjustment away from being very competitive,” Model coach Bobby Huff said.

Anastasia Henderson got the start in the circle and went the distance. The freshman had 11 strikeouts and only allowed three hits, four walks and hit one batter.

The Lady Patriots scored twice in the first inning, then tacked on five more runs in the second. Model went on to score four times in the third and fourth innings.

Kayla Huff had two singles and scored a run. Taylor Bray had two hits and scored twice. Brooke Roberts had a single, walked twice and scored three times.

Hayley Hunt had two hits and scored a run. Lindsey Noland had a double and two singles. Henderson had a hit. Lydia Coleman had two walks and scored a run. Sydney Wilson had a single, two walks and scored three runs and Julia Durso had two walks and scored twice.

Williamsburg got both its runs in the fourth.

Model is set to return to action at EKU Tuesday against Madison Central.

Model rallies past Powell County

The Lady Patriots fell behind big early before rallying for a win at EKU over Powell County on Tuesday.

The Lady Patriots trailed 3-0 in the first inning and 9-6 in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Huff singled and scored the game-winning run on a double by pitcher Grace Weitkamp.

“I was very proud of them,” Huff said. “They had to fight for that win. They got hit right in the mouth in the first inning.”

Model scored four times in the bottom of the first, then added runs in the second and fourth to take a 6-3 lead. Powell County scored three times in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Huff led the Model offense, collecting four hits (three singles and a double) and scored four times.

Weitkamp singled, doubled and scored a run. Bray scored once, Hunt scored once and Noland had a single, double and scored a run.
