H.S. BASKETBALL: Model tops Lynn Camp, 73-51

RICHMOND — The Model Laboratory Patriots picked up a big road win Thursday, 73-51 over Lynn Camp.

“We played really well tonight. It as one of our better overall games of the season,” Model coach Wes Scarberry said. “Our transition game was really good and we played multiple defenses toning. I’m just really happy with the way we played.”

The Patriots jumped out to a 20-13 lead over Lynn Camp and never looked back.

Model’s Keith Mason led all scorers with 20 points, while Caleb Kincaid added 18 and Ephraim Otieno scored 16.

“Caleb really dominated the inside tonight. I’m pleased with the way he played,” Scarberry said. “Ephraim and Mason both played really well also. Mason had a season high scoring and he also had six assists.”

The Patriots pushed the lead to 39-27 by halftime, thanks to a pair of three-pointers by Jared Adams.

Lynn Camp stood its ground in the third quarter, but was outscored 15-14 in the period and trailed 54-41 with eight minutes to play in the game.

The Wildcats trimmed the gap to nine points on two occasions in the fourth quarter, but Model answered both rallies. The Patriots made good on six-of-eight free throw attempts in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Jared Adams had 12 points, Alex Chen added four points and Andrew Backus had three points.

The Patriots will be back in action today when they host West Carter on Senior Night.
