GOLF: Miller finishes in third place

RICHMOND — Richmond’s Zachary Miller turned in another solid performance Friday in the final round of the Musselman-Dunne Golf Tour event at Long Run Golf Course in Louisville.

Miller shot a 79 and finished tied for third in the boys 13-14 year-old division with a total score of 157, +13.

He finished just one stroke behind the second-place finisher, Drew Hinkenbein of Louisville.

Mason Lenhart of Prospect ran away with the title in the two-day, 36-hole event, posting a score of 148, +4.

Miller shot a 78 on Thursday and was in fifth place after the first round.

After Thursday’s opening round, Richmond’s Burgess E. Clark was tied for first place in the boys championship division.

Clark shot a 87 on Friday in the final round and finished tied for sixth with a total score of 163, +19. He shot a 76 in the first round.

Brandon Sanner of Shelbyville took the title with a total score of +6, 150.

Brown likely to miss cut at U.S. Open

Former EKU golfer Brandon Brown likely won’t make the cut at this year’s U.S. Open after a couple of rough rounds on Friday at Merion Golf Course in Ardmore, Pa.

After two rounds, Brown is sitting at +12, 152.

Second-round play was suspended Friday evening, with dozens of golfers left on the course. Still, the projected cut is +7.

Brown got just four holes in on Thursday because of two long rain delays. The Shelbyville native was -1 after birdying the first hole.

Brown finished the first round at +5, then shot 77 on Friday. In the second round, he had four bogeys, two double-bogeys and one birdie.
