Local boxers from Igo’s Boxing Club traveled to Four Seasons in Lexington Saturday to compete in a boxing show sponsored by Lexington PAL and USA Boxing.
Thomas Deck (70 pounds), Gentry Deck (87 pounds), Lane Abney (80 pounds), and Kegan Kavanaugh (125 pounds) were all on the evening’s card.
Thomas Deck’s opponent, David McKsty, came out swinging but was effectively out-boxed against Deck’s speed and counter-punches. For three rounds, McKsty jabbed, slipped, and ducked in an attempt to get inside, but Deck’s short hooks and overhand rights kept McKsty at bay.
Deck’s efforts and skill were more than enough to get him a unanimous decision.
Deck’s brother, Gentry Deck, however, struggled to get the upper hand against Isiah Morre, who showed an aggressive offense against the elder brother. Morre kept the pressure on Deck, locking up often and scoring uppercut points before being separated by the official.
In spite of his best efforts, Deck was not able to control the bout against the more aggressive Morre and lost a unanimous decision.
Abney showed a lot of effort in his fourth bout against Desmond Allison Jr. (Lexington PAL, Lexington). With a more energetic and aggressive style, his defense showed a lot of improvement over his previous bouts by slipping a number of Allison’s jabs and picking and paring combinations. Abney demonstrated a lot of determination in countering many of Allison’s jabs and long right hands, but it was not enough for a win.
He lost to Allison in a unanimous decision.
Kavanaugh won by walkover because his opponent broke his leg and did not show up.
