H.S. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Indians get past Bryan Station, 5-2, Pirates fall, Lady Eagles, Lady Pirates win, Model falls

RICHMOND — The Indians had just six hits off Bryan Station pitching on Friday at Don Richardson Field.

But, they were still able to generate enough runs to beat another tough 11th Region Team.

Madison Central (22-7) scored twice in the fourth and fifth innings and picked up a 5-2 win over the Defenders.

Joseph Holbrook started and went 6 1/3 innings. He allowed six hits, two runs (one earned) with a walk and eight strikeouts.

Kyle Kelsey came on in relief and gave up two hits. Austin Templeton got the final two outs to close the game.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the third. Seth Richardson walked, stole second and third, then scored on a wild pitch.

In the fourth inning, Hunter Kabalen walked and scored when Austin Alexander reached on an error. Richardson added an RBI single to put Central up 3-0.

In the fifth, Ben Morin reached on an error and Holbrook was hit by a pitch. Nick Kavanaugh put Central up 5-1 with a two-run single.

Corey Mullins, Griffin Hotchkiss, Holbrook and Morin had hits.

Central is set to return to action Tuesday at Tates Creek.

Lady Eagles rally past Rockcastle County

The Madison Southern Lady Eagles used a big fifth-inning rally to down visiting Rockcastle 8-4 Friday.

The Lady Eagles spotted the Rockets an early four-run lead.

Rockcastle got one run in the first inning and three in the fourth — all unearned — before the Southern bats came alive.

Freshman Morgan Anglin ignighted the rally with a single in the bottom of the fifth — the first of eight hits in the inning — as the Lady Eagles pushed eight runs across the plate to take an 8-4 lead.

That was all Southern starting pitcher Tara Bord needed. The Eagles’ ace didn’t give up another run in going the distance in the circle for the win.

Lead-off hitter Bethany Mays led the way for the Lady Eagles at the plate with a single and double.

Abby Nash had a pair of singles and Alex Nash, Jaycee Combs and Kelly Freeman all added singles.

Southern returns to action on Tuesday at Model.
