The Lady Eagles battled one of the top-ranked teams for most of the game, but a flurry of late goals allowed Lexington Catholic to pull away.
The ninth-ranked Lady Knights scored four times in the final 11 minutes and picked up a 5-0 win Wednesday in Lexington.
Kristyn Murphy made several outstanding saves, still Madison Southern (16-2) suffered just its second loss of the season.
“We just quit playing,” Southern coach Katy Cress said of the final minutes. “Take out the final 11 minutes and we gave them a game. The score doesn’t show it.”
Murphy came up with a solid stop early in the game when a Catholic player got a breakaway. The sophomore added a couple of nice saves later in the game.
Southern is set to return to action Monday against Berea in the opening round of the 44th District Tournament at Madison Central High School.
Berea 1, Middlesboro 1
The Pirates snapped a 13-game losing streak by picking up a 1-1 tie with Middlesboro Wednesday at home.
Berea trailed late, but got a goal from Isaac McFarland in the final minute to pull even.
The Pirates (2-14-1) are set to retun to action against Model Tuesday in the opening round of the 44th District Tournament at Madison Central High School.
