LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: Red Sox take title; Tigers stay alive

RICHMOND — The Richmond Kiwanis Red Sox got off to a fast start and rolled to the championship of the Richmond Little League’s Major League American Division Tournament Wednesday at Lake Reba.

The Red Sox scored four times in both the first and second inning and defeated the Peoples Bank Rangers, 10-6.

Tyler Santiago hit a two-run homer in the second inning for the Red Sox. The Rangers out-hit the Red Sox, 10-7, and got a solo home run from Braden Mays in the fourth inning.

Lincoln Lunsford, Jackson Juett and Alex Deaton each scored twice for the Red Sox, while Santiago, Elijah Chasteen, T.J. Estes and Les Shepherd all scored a run.

Caeden Layton scored twice for the Rangers, while Jason Deerfield, Hayden Waterbeck, Jacob Hurt and Mays each scored a run.

Deerfield and Layton pitched for the Rangers, while Shepherd, Lunsford and Santiago pitched the Red Sox.

After the game, the 2013 Richmond American 11-12 year-old All-Stars were announced. The team includes: Kenton Humphrey and Luke Keck (Central Kentucky Surgery A’s), Jason Deerfield, Bennie Hurt, Caeden Layton, Lucas Myers and Hayden Waterbeck (Peoples Bank Rangers), Lincoln Lunsford and Tyler Santiago (Kiwanis Red Sox) and John Bingham and Alexander Lazaroff (University Book & Supply Angels).

Minor American

The Davis Law Tigers forced a one-game showdown for the championship with an 18-5 win over the Madison Pediatrics Indians Wednesday in the Minor League American Division Tournament.

Colton Perkins hit a home run in the third inning as the Tigers jumped out to a 12-1 lead.

The teams will meet again later this week, with the winner taking the title.
