Four golfers with local connections are still alive after day two of the 102nd Kentucky Amateur Championship.
Former Madison Central golfer and EKU senior Stuart Witt had the highest finish of the four golfers who made the cut to advance to today’s final round at the Bowling Green Country Club.
Witt shot a -3, 69 Wednesday for a two-round total of 142, and stands in sixth place in the tournament.
EKU junior Taylor Riggs finished with a -2, 70, for a two-day total 148 and is tied for 30th place.
Tyler McDaniel of Manchester leads the tournament with a -9, 135, while first-round leader, Clay Hinton of Elizabethtown, is in second place with a -6, 138.
EKU Senior Garrett Hinton, with a +4, 76 and EKU sophomore Ben Purcell, +2, 74, have two-round totals of 151, and are tied for 56th place.
Local golfers Kyle Congleton, Adam Herald, Daniel DeLuca and Brad Newnam failed to make the cut to advance to today’s final round.
Kentucky PGA Junior Championship Qualifier
Two Madison County golfers are participating in the Junior PGA Championship qualifying tournament at the Bardstown Country Club-Maywood.
Tristyn Nowlin shot a +10, 82 in Wednesday’s first round, good enough for fifth place in the girls 13-15 age division, and 15th in the overall girls standings.
Mason Hamrick shot a first-round +8, 88, and is in sixth place in the boys 12-and-under division.
The final round of the tournament is today.
