GOLF: Local golfers set to compete at State Amateur

MADISON COUNTY — Eight golfers with local connections will tee it up today in the opening round of the 102nd Kentucky Amateur Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.

Six current Eastern Kentucky University golfers are in the field — Kyle Congleton (sophomore, Richmond), Stuart Witt (senior, Richmond), Garrett Hinton (senior, Elizabethtown), Taylor Riggs (junior, LaGrange), Ben Purchell (sophomore, Science Hill) and Daniel DeLuca (sophomore, Lexington).

Richmond natives Adam Herald and Brad Newnam will also take part in the event.

The championship will be contested over three days. The field of 156 golfers will be cut after the first 36 of the 54 holes  to the top 70 and all ties.
