H.S. BASKETBALL: Indians honored by National Guard, MaxPreps

LEXINGTON — The Madison Central Indians were presented with the Army National Guard National Ranking Trophy Thursday during a ceremony at the school.

The award is part of the MaxPreps Tour of Champions, which is in its seventh year and recognizes some of the best boys basketball teams in the country. Madison Central finished 60th in the MaxPreps national rankings.

MaxPreps ranks more than 20,000 varsity high school boys basketball teams from across the country and Central was one of only 10 schools nationwide to receive the honor for winning the school’s first state basketball championship.

Also during the ceremony, banners were displayed in the rafters of school’s gymnasium honoring former Central and University of Kentucky standout Marquis Estill and current Indian Dominique Hawkins for their selections as Gatorade’s Kentucky Player of the Year.

The school also framed Estill’s No. 50 jersey he wore during his career at Central and presented it to him Thursday.

State Tournament Commemorative DVD

Four Days In March, a DVD commemorating the Madison Central basketball team’s 2013 Sweet 16 Championship, is now available.

The cost is $20 and the video can be purchased at the front office of the school.

The hour-long documentary features highlights of the Indians’ 11th Region Tournament championship, including the dramatic win over Henry Clay in the semifinals, and footage from all four of Central’s victories at Rupp Arena.

The DVD also features in-depth interviews with the team’s players and coaches.

The video is produced by First String Media of Lexington.
