H.S. BASEBALL: Wright, Fisher power Indians to big win

RICHMOND — The Indians got big blasts from a pair of senior leaders Thursday in Louisville.

Ben Fisher and Jimmy Wright each homered as Madison Central picked up a 3-1 over Ballard in the opening round of the Louisville Invitational Tournament.

The Indians (11-6) had only six hits, but got all three of their runs in the fourth, while three pitchers limited the Bruins to just five hits.

Jeremy Lakes started and went 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits, with two strikeouts and one walk.

Jonah Kelsey came on to face one batter, and issued a walk. Austin Templeton pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to earn the save.

Wright led-off the fourth with a solo home run to center field. Ben Morin then singled and Fisher followed with a homer to right field.

Jake Caldwell, Nick Kavanaugh and Cory Mullins had the only other hits for the Indians.

Central is set to return to action today at Scott County.

Model 14, Jackson County 5

The Patriots snapped a three-game losing streak with a lopsided road win.

Jared Adams picked up a complete-game victory, with nine strikeouts and also had three hits as Model Laboratory (5-11) defeated Jackson County, 14-5.

Jesse Middleton hit a three-run home run and also had a single and a double. Trey Baker was 3-for-5, while Ray White was 2-for-5 with a double and a single.

Model is set to return to action today at Lynn Camp.

Harrison County 12, Southern 4

The Madison Southern baseball team suffered a 12-4 loss at Harrison County on Thursday.

The Eagles (3-22) are set to return to action Saturday against Carroll County at the Harrison Memorial Hospital/McDonald’s Classic.
