H.S. AQUATICS: Baldwin, Lakes shine at state meet

RICHMOND — Madison Central had several swimmers compete Saturday in the final heats of the KHSAA State Meet at the University of Louisville.

Chase Baldwin and Morgan Lakes both advanced to the consolation finals in two events.

Baldwin finished 12th in the 100-yard back and was 14th in the 200-yard individual medley.

Lakes was 15th in the 500-yard free and was also 16th in the 200 IM.

 Swimmers with the top eight times in each event in Friday’s preliminaries advanced to the championship final. The next eight fastest qualifiers earned a spot in the consolation final.

Central also had two girls relay teams qualify for the consolation finals.

The 200-yard free relay team — Caroline Smith, Madeline Meeker, Abigail Thompson and Molly Ford — finished 10th, while the 200-yard medley relay — Thompson, Tilly Baldwin, Lakes and Ford — finished 15th.

A total of 10 Madison County swimmers qualified for individual events at the state meet, while eight relay teams also earned a trip to Louisville.

In Friday’s preliminary action, Smith finished 17th in the 100-yard free and 20th in the 200-yard free. Ford was 17th in the 50-yard free and 21st in the 100-yard free.

Other Central swimmers who competed Friday in the preliminaries included: Abigail Thompson (27th - 100-yard backstroke), Tilly Baldwin (28th — 500-yard free) and Trent Lakes (31st — 500-yard free).

Model’s James Schwartz finished 28th in the 500-yard free preliminaries.

Model had five relay teams qualify for the state meet. The 200-yard medley boys relay finished 19th, the 400-yard free boys relay finished 20th, the 200-free boys relay finished 21st, the 400-yard free girls relay took 29th and the 200-yard medley girls relay was 31st.

Central’s 400-yard freestyle girls relay finished 18th.
