CROSS COUNTRY: Indians, Lady Indians capture state titles

LEXINGTON — The Madison Central cross country teams captured two state titles Saturday at the Meet of Champions at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

The Central girls dominated the varsity race, placing four runners in the top 15. The Lady Indians took first place with 30 points, easily beating second-place Pulaski County (108 points).

Central’s freshman took the state title in their division, placing three runners in the top 39 finishers of the varsity race.

The Central boys finished third in the varsity race and their freshman runners were also named the state championships in their division.

The Indians were led by Mason Crump, who finished seventh with a time of 17:06.30. Brennan Fields, a freshman, was 10th.

The Lady Indians were led by Gabriella Sabino, a senior who finished eighth. Anna Marshall finished 10th, Julia Manning, a freshman, was 12th, Ivanna Sabino, a freshman, was 15th and Sarah Franklin was 24th.

Anna Knox was 26th, Melanie Manning, a freshman was 39th, Kimberly Mosher was 70th and Emily Jones, a freshman was 106th.

For the Indians, Kyle Kelsey (freshman) was 40th, Griffin Sexton (freshman) was 42nd, Grant Brockman (freshman) was 55th, Parker Stanley was 56th and Ethan Minerich was 116th.

Central finished with 126 points in the boys race and finished behind Cooper (72) and Trinity (64).

Central’s junior boys also finished third in the state competition in their division.

The Indians and Lady Indians are set to compete in the regional meet Saturday in London.
