H.S. SOCCER: Indians top Rowan County, 3-0

BEREA — The Madison Central boys soccer team defeated Rowan County, 3-1, Tuesday at the Stonerside Cup, which is being hosted by Bourbon County.

Rowan County scored its only goal in the first half and was thwarted on two other attempts, first by freshman Sammy Perkins who blocked and cleared a sure goal followed by another block and cleared ball by senior Addison McCoy.

Junior goalie Levi Knutson had two saves in the first half.

Central scored three times in the first half.

Sophomore Dylan Dotson scored on an assist by senior Luke Hall. Another assist by Hall led to a goal by freshman Hunter Jackson.

Left-footed freshmen Peyton Netherton sent the third goal into the right corner of the net with only 43 seconds left in the first half.

During the second half, senior goalie Ben Durham had five saves while Central played a game of ‘takeaway and shoot’ with three steals by McCoy, two by Perkins, two by freshman Luc Powell and one each by senior Grant Willoughby, senior Ethan Fielder and  junior Tate Renzinbrink.

Shots were taken by Jackson (three); Caleb Crutcher, Logan Baker, Dotson, Fielder and Hall (two); and Renzinbrink and senior Chandler Payne (one). Renzinbrink had two blocks, Powell had one and freshman Worthie McGuire also had a block.

The junior varsity Indians beat Rowan County 4-0 with two goals by eighth-grader Bryce Fielder, and one score each by McGuire and freshman Evan Cornett.

Eighth-grader Fez Bedeiri had an assist.  

Freshman Jason Beasley and seventh-grader Jordan Hatcher shared time in goal.  

Both teams are back in action Thursday night against district rival Madison Southern at Madison Central with the JV contest beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the varsity game.

Holmes 5, Berea 2

The Berea Community boys soccer team couldn’t come up a win Tuesday on the road.

The Pirates got goals from Karmadri Santiago and Austin Warford, but suffered a 5-2 loss at Holmes.

With the loss, Berea falls to 1-2 on the season.

Holmes had just a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The Pirates are set to return to action Thursday at home against Estill County.
