KIAC HOOPS: Berea College falls in semis of KIAC Tournament

RICHMOND — The Berea College Lady Mountaineers (14-13, 9-8 KIAC) fell 68-64 to Point Park (28-4, 13-4 KIAC) in semifinals of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Friday at Alice Lloyd College.

Berea had beaten Point Park in the other two meetings between the two schools this season.

The game was close all the way. It was tied 27-27 at the half before Point Park pulled out to a 60-46 lead with five minutes remaining.

The Lady Mountaineers mounted a furious comeback but could get no closer than four points.

Johnesha Warren led three Lady Mountaineers in double figures with a game-best 21 points. Former Madison Central standout Erika Parks finished with 14 points and Malena Steve added 12 points.

K.K. Butler had seven points, Kaitlynne Smith had five points, DeAnn Ryan had three points and Megan Walker added two points.

IU-Southeast 78, Mountaineers 69,

The Berea College Mountaineers lost a 78-69 decision to the No. 2 ranked Indiana University-Southeast Grenadiers in the semifinals of the KIAC Tournament Friday at Alice Lloyd.

The Grenadiers led by 12 points with five minutes left in the first half, but Berea fought back and got to within 42-40 at the half.

The Mountaineers took a brief lead early in the second half, but IU-Southeast pulled away.

Daishon Robinson led four Mountaineers in double figures with 16 points. Seth Beckham had 14 points, former Madison Southern star Aaron Ponder had 12 points and Richard Parker added 10 points.

Anthony Myrks had eight points, Tevin Webster finished with six points, Jalen Simmons had two points and Deon Banks.
