KIAC HOOPS: Berea College’s Parks named All-KIAC

RICHMOND — Former Madison Central standout Erika Parks was named to the 2013-2014 All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team on Friday.

The Berea College junior guard was joined on the All-KIAC team by teammate Johnesha Warren, a junior guard.

Former EKU guard Carla Booth, who is now at Alice Lloyd, was also an All-KIAC selection.

Parks has had a tremendous junior season. The Richmond native is averaging 17.9 points a game (second on the team) and leads the Lady Mountaineers in three-pointers (96). She has scored in double figures in 23 of 26 games this season.

Last week against Brescia, she hit 10 three-pointers and scored a career-best 42 points.

In Berea’s win Tuesday over IUSE in the KIAC Tournament opener, Parks had 14 points.

Warren leads Berea in scoring at 18.3 points per game. She also leads the team in steals (89) and assists (163). The junior had a triple-double in last week’s win over Brescia.

Daishon Robinson was the only Mountaineer to be named to this year’s All-KIAC team.

The junior transfer from Lakeland Community College leads Berea in scoring this season at 18.17 points a game. He had 16 points as the Mountaineers knocked off Asbury Tuesday in the opening round of the KIAC Tournament in Wilmore.

The junior has scored in double figures in 28 or 29 games this season and leads the Mountaineers in assists (142) and steals (57) and is averaging 5.0 rebounds a game (second-best on the team).

Berea set for KIAC Final Four

The Berea College men’s and women’s basketball teams had to go on the road Tuesday for the opening round of the KIAC Tournament.

Both teams were able to pull of upsets and move on to this week’s KIAC Final Four at Alice Lloyd.

The Mountaineers (16-13, 9-9 KIAC) will take on top-seeded Indiana University-Southeast at 7:30 p.m. today. The Lady Mountaineers are set to take on top-seeded Point Park at 5:30 p.m. today.

IUSE (24-3, 17-0 KIAC) is currently ranked  No. 2 in the country. The Grenadiers defeated Berea both times they played this season, winning 81-70 at Berea on Jan. 22 and 111-80 on Feb. 13.

Point Park (27-4, 13-4 KIAC) has just four losses on the season, but Berea swept the regular-season series between the schools. The Lady Mountaineers won 65-57 at Berea on Jan. 10 and 92-86 a week later in Pittsburgh.
