BOWLING: Johnson claims state seniors title

RICHMOND — Brandon Simpson and Shawn Barton each bowled a 701 series to top the scoring at Galaxy this week. Patrick Wells rolled the high game for the week at 259.

The best women’s scores were a 577 series by Beverly Shearer and a 224 game by Regina Barton.

League highlights

Galaxy Classic

The best series scores on Monday were 701 each by Brandon Simpson and Shawn Barton. The highest games were 259 by Patrick Wells and 258 by Simpson.

A 600 series was rolled by Wells (687), Ron Gugel (670), Ronnie Thomas (637), Robby Bales (634), David Norman (631), Mike Riley (625) and Joe Reichel (601). Nate Rosenbauer just missed a 600 series with a 599 score.

The best women’s games were 224 by Regina Barton and 200 by Andi Daly. Daly (545) and Barton (542) also rolled the best women’s series scores.



Galaxy Girls

The high games on Tuesday were 169 by both Rita Roberts and Narita Rose and 167 by Keeley Gadd.

Rose (461), Jelemia Sanders (457) and Shella Cobb (457) rolled the best series score for the league members.

Substitute Beverly Shearer topped all the league members with a 194 game and 523 series.

Splits were picked up by Beverly Aleshire (3-10), Linda Combs (5-7-9), Emma Lee Tate (5-6-10) and Brenda Williams (3-10 and 5-10).



TGIF

The high series by the members of this league last week were 664 by Merle Meade and 650 by Ron Gugel, while the top games were 244 by Bill Bowles and 226 by Meade.

A 600 series was also bowled by Bowles (649), Steve Woltering (647), and substitutes Mark Rogers (623) and Neil Haggard (617).

Sub Brandon Simpson out-scored all the league members with a 254 game and 669 series.

Novel Davis led the league’s ladies with a 209 game and 549 series, followed by Sandy Reynolds at 202 and 522.



Wednesday Wonders

Bill Bowles (243) and Lewis Jones Jr. (236) bowled the high games in this league last week, while the top series scores were 612 by Bowles, 612 by David Norman, 609 by Jones, Jr. and 600 by Mark Rogers.

JoAnn Smith led the league’s ladies with a 195 game and 484 series, followed by Pat Holtzclaw at 180 and 455.

Splits were converted by Kymmi Bowles (5-7) and Russell Jones (2-4-10).



Classic Doubles

The high games last Thursday were bowled by Josh Jackson (234), Carl Daniels (204) and Bobby Abrams (203). Daniels (551) and Russell Truesdale (533) rolled the top series scores.

Pam Bennett (189) and Denise Lakner (173) bowled the top women’s games, while the high women’s series were 507 by Lakner and 476 by Bennett.

Vernon Bennett and Pam Bennett each converted a 5-7 split.



Arlington

The high games on Tuesday were 191 by Tina Hunter and 189 by Doris Gish, while the best series scores were 491 by Connie Bowlin and 483 by Gish.

Splits were converted by Fanny Rice (5-10), Yolanda Fritz (5-7-9), Sybil Fagan (5-10) and Barbara Hendren (5-7).



Early Birds

Beverly Shearer led this league with a 201 game and 577 series on Wednesday morning. Genny Bryant rolled the second-best game (175) and Karen Kensicki bowled the second-high series (499).

Splits were converted by Bryant (5-6-10), Wanda Sampson (2-7) and Gail Campbell (3-10 and 6-7-10).



Cash Money

Levi Burns (191) and Sam Spangler (182) rolled the top men’s games on Monday, while the best men’s series were 480 by Harlan Dyehouse and 476 by Donald Spivey.

Christy Andrews bowled the highest series score for either gender (499) and the best women’s game (184). Jessica Bitnar rolled the second-best women’s series (438) and game (159).



Bad Bowlers No-Tap

Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.

Gary Cromer led this league on Tuesday with a 276 game and 731 series, followed by Steve Dickey at 248 and 564.

The top women’s games were 196 by April Brumfield and 183 by Joanna Dickey, while the best women’s series were 470 by Dickey and 452 by Brumfield.

Upcoming events

The eighth-annual Kentucky Women’s Bowling Association state tournament will take place at the Blue Ribbon Lanes in Ashland Friday through Sunday and Nov. 2 and 3.

The 58th annual Kentucky State Bowling Association state tournament is scheduled for Owensboro on Nov. 1 through Nov. 3, Nov. 9 and 10 and Nov. 16 and 17.

A scotch doubles tournament is set for 2 p.m. on Nov. 3 at Galaxy to benefit the Madison County Relay For Life.

The partners alternate rolling a ball in a scotch doubles tourney. The entry fee is $15 and all bowlers are invited to participate.
