H.S. HOOPS: This time around, Lady Indians not happy just getting to Sweet 16

Madison Central coach Robbie Cooksey was recently selected as the 11th Region Coach Of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.

In addition, Central senior point guard Larryn Brooks has been named the 11th Region Player of the Year by the KABC.

Cooksey and Brooks and will receive their awards at halftime of the first game of Friday’s afternoon session of the Girls Sweet 16 at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green. The KABC will sponsor a reception for all award winners and families at the Jack and Jackie Harbaugh Stadium Club in Houchens Smith Stadium on Friday.

Madison Central defeated Lafayette, 45-34, last week to win the 11th Region Tournament and earn a spot in the 11th Region Tournament.

The Lady Indians (29-4) are set to meet Notre Dame Academy (26-5) at 9 p.m. today in the opening round of the state tournament.

In four seasons at Central, Cooksey has a 108-21 record and has led the school to four district titles, three appearances in the 11th Region championship game and two regional titles.

Brooks is averaging 19 points a game and was recently named one of five finalists for this year’s Ms. Basketball Award.

The senior point guard has scored more than 1,000 points in her career and has already signed with Indiana University.
