H.S. TENNIS: Patriots top Pirates

BEREA — The Patriots dominated singles play and earned a hard-fought victory over cross-county rival Berea Community, 7-2, Tuesday at Berea College.

Model won five of the six singles matches and also took two of the three doubles matches.

At No. 1 singles, Gus Benson defeated Steven Gadd, 6-2. 6-2. Jack Frisbie beat Sam Jackson, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Berea’s David Gadd defeated Cole Wilson, 6-1, 6-4.

In other singles action, James Logue defeated Nick Lykins, 6-3, 6-1, Blake Benson defeated Chris Robinson, 6-4, 6-1, and Levi Agee defeated Sam Chen, 6-1, 6-3.

All three doubles matches were very competitive.

At No. 1, Jackson and Steven Gadd defeated Jack Frisbie and Logue. At No. 2, Nolan Kelley and Blake Benson defeated Berea’s Lykins and David Gadd.

In the other match, Model’s Agee and Nate Frisbie beat Colin Robbins and Topher Robinson, 8-6.

Model is set to return to action today at 11th Region rival Dunbar.

The Patriots will take on some of the better teams in the state this weekend in Richmond when they play host to the Central Bank Model Invitational. The field for the event includes, Covington Catholic, South Oldham and Whitley County.
