Special to the Register

RICHMOND — The Eastern Kentucky University women’s golf team posted the 22nd best team grade-point-average in all of women’s college golf, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced recently.

Eastern’s 2012-13 team GPA of 3.604 is the 22nd best among all divisions of women’s golf. It was the 15th highest GPA among Division I schools.

“Our team continued to show the importance of their academic work with a team GPA of 3.6,” head coach Mike Whitson said. “We truly have players that have lofty professional goals in areas other than golf and I commend them on their effort and hard work.”

In June the WGCA announced its list of All-American Scholars, and for the second straight year no NCAA Division I institution had more than the EKU women’s golf team. Five Colonels made the list. Fifteen other schools also had five selections. Seniors April Emerson and Kristen Dorsey, sophomore Nicki Henry, and freshmen Anna Gleixner and Rachel Welker were chosen as 2012-13 All-American Scholars.
