KIAC HOOPS: Berea rolls past Virginia Intermont

BEREA — The Mountaineers had little trouble rolling past Virginia Intermont Friday at the Seabury Center.

Richard Parker had 18 points off the bench as Berea College (4-2) picked up an 84-67 win. The Mountaineers never trailed and led by as much as 27 points.

London Moore had 10 rebounds and nine points, while Tevin Webster had 12 points. Daison Robinson added 11 points and seven assists.

Berea shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and went into halftime with a 40-27 lead. The Mountaineers shot 48 percent for the game, forced 22 turnovers and had 13 steals.

Parker was four-of-seven from three-point range and also had three steals and two assists in 28 minutes of action.

Seth Beckham and Anthony Myrks had nine points each, while Aaron Ponder and Tyler Huff had eight points each.

Joshua Hart had a game-best 38 points and eight rebounds for Virginia Intermont.

Berea is set to return to action Thursday at home against Wilberforce.

Lady Mountaineers fall

The Berea College women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, falling to Union College, 81-76, at the Seabury Center.

Johnesha Warren led the Lady Mountaineers (2-1) with 28 points, seven steals and six assists. Erika Parks added 12 points and five rebounds and Meagan Walker had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Berea shot just 32 percent (25-of-79) and was only seven-of-26 from the three-point range.

Union built a 10-point halftime lead (37-27) and led by as much as 17 points in the second half.

The Lady Mountaineers never led.

Malena Steve added eight points and Kaitlynne Smith finished with six points for Berea.

Union College shot just 41 percent from the floor, but hit 20-of-26 free throw attempts.

The Lady Mountaineers are set to return to action Sunday at home against Marian College.
