BOWLING: Three men reach 700 at Galaxy

RICHMOND — Three men bowled a 700 series at Galaxy last week led by Brandon Simpson, whose 788 score in the Wednesday Wonders League ranks third on the Galaxy leaderboard for this season.

Shawn Barton bowled a 722 score in the Galaxy Classic League and John Hickam rolled a 704 series in the Friday Night Mixed League.

Matt Wieczorek rolled the high game for the week at 279 in the Galaxy Classic League.

The best women’s scores were a 598 series by Gail Campbell in the Early Birds League and a 235 game by Tina Hisle in the Classic Doubles League.

League Highlights

Galaxy Classic

Shawn Barton bowled the top series (722) in this league last week and Matt Wieczorek rolled the high game (279).

Mark Rogers was second in both categories with a 269 game and 685 series.

A record number of men (20) rolled a 600 series in this league last Monday. In addition to Rogers, a 600 series was bowled by John Hickam (673), Mike E. Bryant (666), Aaron Rose (653), Wieczorek (650), Lewis Jones Jr. (649), Brandon Lutes (634), Bruce Watson (630), Daniel Benge (628) and Glenn Masters (626).

Spider Weaver (623), Brandon Simpson (614), Gary Cromer (613), Patrick Wells (613), Neil Haggard (608), Barry Miller (608), Billy McGuire (604), Bobby Abrams (601), David Norman (601) and Lynn Estes (600) completed the list of bowlers with a 600 series.

Two women — Regina Barton (595) and Andi Daly (546) — bowled a 500 series.

Galaxy Girls

Bridget Settles (210) and Brenda Marcum (202) rolled a 200-level game in this league last Tuesday.

The best series scores were 577 by Settles, 526 by Narita Rose and 510 by Marcum.

Splits were converted by Faye Willis (5-7-9), Pauline Denny (2-4-10), Amy Felty (5-7), Brenda Williams (5-7), Sherry Ernst

(2-7-8) and Lois Evans (6-7-10).

Wednesday Wonders

Bill Bowles led the members of this league last week with a 267 game and 636 series, followed by Carl Daniels at 256 and 626.

Substitute Brandon Simpson bowled a 788 series with game scores of 270, 259 and 259. This series score ranks third on the Galaxy leaderboard for the season behind a 794 series by John Hickam and a 790 score by Brandon Lutes.

Kymmi Bowles led the league’s ladies with a 204 game and 503 series, followed by Pat Holtzclaw at 159 and 456.


The high games in this league last Tuesday were 191 by Barbara Hendren and 186 by Janell Williams.

Bridget Settles (514) and Linda Bowles (512) bowled the highest series scores.

Splits were converted by Hendren (2-6), Sherry Ernst (2-7), Connie Bowlin (5-7), Jamie Carroll (3-10), Betty Morris (5-9) and Merle Motley (5-7 and 3-5-7).

Early Birds

Gail Campbell set a new high for a series in this league this season with a 598 total, which included the high game for the day at 233.

Beverly Shearer bowled the second-best series (503) and the second-highest game with a no-miss 203 score.

Splits were converted by Mary Lou Cox (2-7), Joyce Kearns (3-10) and Wanda Sampson (3-9-10).

Classic Doubles

Josh Jackson led this league last Thursday with a 257 game and 617 series, while Mike Huser rolled the second-best men’s scores with a 202 game and 598 series.

The women were led by Tina Hisle with a 235 game and 564 series, followed by Beverly Shearer at 163 and 463.

Hisle’s 235 game is the high for a woman in this league this season.

Friday Night Mixed

John Hickam bowled the top series in this league last week at 704 and the second-best game at 256. The high game was 276 by Ronald Richmond.

A 600 series was rolled by Ron Gugel (657), Richmond (625), Glenn Masters (622), Tim Lainhart (613) and Mark Rogers (608).

Kymmi Bowles led the women with a no-miss 213 game, which is her career-best score. Bowles also bowled the second-best women’s series (559).

The high women’s series for the night was 568 by Narita Rose who also rolled the second-high game (203).

Debbie Jones converted a 3-7-10 split.


Brian Ford led this league last week with a 241 game and 592 series, followed by Merle Meade at 227 and 553.

The top women’s games were 210 by Sandy Reynolds and 180 by Sara Zuercher, while the high series scores were 502 by Zuercher and 501 by Reynolds.

Splits were converted by Zuercher (3-10), Reynolds (5-7), Margaret Tilsley (3-10), Fred Tilsley (5-10), Miranda Reffitt (3-10), Charles Harris (6-7-10) and Pat Harris (2-4-5-7-10).

Cash Money

Steve Marionneau (220) and J.J. Reisig (198) bowled the top games in this league last week, while the high series scores were rolled by Reisig (566) and Steve McKnight (556).

Beth Voorhees bowled the best women’s game (166) and series (387), followed by Janet Bird at 141 and 383.

Bad Bowlers No-tap

Nine pins down with the first ball in a frame counts as a strike in no-tap leagues.

Steve Dickey (721), Gary Cromer (702) and Kyle Shultz (599) bowled the top series scores in this league last week, while the highest games were 278 by Cromer, 264 by Dickey and 236 by Dean Acker.

Joanna Dickey rolled the best women’s game (210) and series (523). April Brumfield bowled the next-best women’s game (187) and Pat Taulbee the second-high women’s series (460).
