After starting the season 2-3, the Madison Southern Lady Eagles have begun to hit their stride, reeling off four straight wins over the last two weeks.
Southern moved to 6-3 on the season with a hard fought 7-6 win over George Rogers Clark Monday in Winchester.
Sophomore Tara Bord picked up the complete-game win for Southern, giving up 12 hits and four earned runs over seven innings.
Whitney Conkwright took the loss for the Lady Cardinals, giving up 10 hits.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning, two in second and three in the third to go up 6-0.
The Lady Cards got two runs back off Bord in the bottom of the third.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Southern pushed another run across the plate in the fifth to go up 7-2.
GRC got two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Lady Eagles hung on for the win.
Freshman centerfielder Bethany Mays led the way at the plate for the Lady Eagles going three-for-five with one RBI, while scoring three runs.
Bord was 2-3, while Amber Sparks, Briana Lanham, Jaycee Sparks, Alex Nash and Paige King had one hit each. Sparks and Lanham also had one RBI each and Kayla Hargis had two runs scored.
Southern is back in action on Thursday when they travel to Model to take on the Lady Patriots.
