OVC HOOPS: EKU’s Cosey honored by OVC

RICHMOND — EKU senior guard Glenn Cosey was chosen as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tenn., headquarters.

Cosey broke the school record and tied the OVC mark with 10 three-pointers in a win at Eastern Illinois on Thursday.

The Colonels will play host to Murray State University on Wednesday. It will be the Racers’ first visit to McBrayer Arena since Dec. 2, 2010.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Cosey finished with a career-best 34 points at EIU, hitting 11-of-14 from the field, including 10-of-12 from behind the arc. He also dished out six assists and did not turn the ball over.

The Flint, Mich., native broke the school record of seven three-pointers with 12:26 left in the game. He tied the OVC record with his 10th at the 9:04 mark. Ironically, the OVC record was set by Marc Polite of Eastern Illinois.

Two days later, Cosey finished with 23 points, four assists and four rebounds in a loss at Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

It is the first time Cosey has earned OVC Player of the Week honors. He was chosen as the OVC Newcomer of the Week six times last season.

In two games last week, Cosey averaged 28.5 points, 5.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He hit on 60 percent (18-of-30) of his shots from the field and made 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from behind the three point line.  He had 10 assists and only two turnovers in both games combined.

Wednesday is Kids’ Night at EKU. All kids 12-and-under will receive free admission to watch the Colonels play Murray State.
