BEREA — The Eagles let a six-run lead slip away Wednesday against Sayre at home, but their seniors helped them rally late to claim a special victory.

Chris Anderson delivered a walk-off three-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give Madison Southern a 11-10 win on Senior Night.

The win was the third straight for the Eagles (6-26).

“It was a really good win,” Southern coach Dusty Hon said. “Especially for our seniors.”

Southern had an early 8-2 lead, but Sayre scored eight-straight runs to take a 10-8 lead in the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases, setting the stage for Anderson, a senior, to come up with the big hit.

Senior Lucas Reynolds started for Southern and went six innings. Lukas Owens came on in the seventh and freshman Easton Shouse came in to get the final out of the inning.

Andrew Evans, Kendan Angel and Anderson all had big hits for Southern.

In the only other meeting of the season between the schools, Sayre defeated the Eagles, 11-1, April 15 in Lexington.

Since starting the season by losing 21 of its first 23 games, Southern is 4-5 in its past nine games.

The Eagles are set to return to action today at Powell County.

Estill County 19, Model 2

After picking up a pair of lopsided wins earlier in the week, the Patriots came up short Wednesday in Irvine.

Model (7-16) suffered a 19-2 loss to Estill County.

The Engineers defeated the Patriots 11-0 May 3 in Richmond in the only other meeting of the season between the teams.

Model is set to return to action today at Danville.
